This section of the library shows pictures of photographers and their studios and illustrates the art of the photographer, or his colourist, in hand-colouring the sepia photographs of the day. Also shown are images taken using some of the more unusual processes such as tintypes, autotypes and chromotypes.

As a bonus, we have also included some of the wonderful artwork used by photographers on their fancy photograph mounts – often including details of their patrons and illustrating medals awarded. Click on one of the links at the bottom of the page to go to the category of your choice.
